Lenny Azzarello is an active jazz pianist, composer and educator.  He composed music for three soap operas in New York City: As the World Turns, Another World and Guiding Light. 

He earned two Emmy nominations for As the World Turns for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction for a Drama series.

Lenny also composed the music for two animated films by Holly Klein: "Duncan" and "Maggie and Mildred". Both animated films were showcased at the International Animation Festival and the Brooklyn International Film Festival. 

He composed three classical pieces for a Composer’s Seminar at New York University under the direction of Dinu Ghezzo.

Lenny received his Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from SUNY at Albany. He earned his Master's Degree from New York University.

Lenny has studied piano and composition with Lennie Tristano, Barry Harris, Sal Mosca and Don Freidman, (NYU).

In addition to his two Emmy nominations, he has received numerous awards and honors.  They include a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship to Tokyo, Japan, Outstanding Teacher of the Year, Brooklyn, NY, Outstanding Participation and Commitment to the Career Development Internship Program, Center for the Arts, NYC, Centennial Scholarship at NYU, Master’s Program, and Outstanding Leadership in Graduate Music Education at New York University.

Lenny founded the Young Adults Jazz Chorus.  The group was made up of teens and pre-teens from New York City.  He taught them to scat sing and the how to sing lyrics to many bebop standards.  Barry Harris featured Lenny and the Young Adults Jazz Chorus at many of his concerts at Symphony Space, Town Hall, and the Beacon Theater.  

Lenny has performed with numerous musicians and singers including Vic Juris, Mike Formanek, Akira Tana, Don Messina, Paul Brown, Calvin Hill, Leroy Williams, Bill Chatlin, David Baker, Joe Solomon, Bob Arthur, Ted Brown, Jimmy Halperin and others.

Lenny has participated and performed at numerous jazz workshops including the Duke Ellington Conductor's Workshop in Aspen, Colorado, and both the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Netherlands and the Jazz Workshop in London with Barry Harris.

Lenny is on the faculty at the High School at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, NY.  He teaches beginning and advanced piano and is the director of the Jazz and Concert Orchestra.
