Civil Rights Movement: A History from Beginning to End (2024)

An excellent factual review suited both for younger readers not familiar with the history and older readers who could use a refresher.

The Civil Rights Movement holds a significant position in modern American history. The denial of basic Human Rights to black Americans and African Americans would start a movement in the 1950s and rage on till the 1970s. The outcome of this movement wasn’t small. It helped in the making of three Acts that would safeguard the rights of black Americans. Racial discrimination and colour differentiation have been extremely lowered down because of this revolution. We can all thank Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and many more prominent members of the movement for ending the inequality in America.

This book was brief and yet gave detailed information related to the movement. It was concise and nicely written. My only concern is that it gave less knowledge about the movement and more about its start and outcome. But I recommend this book for understanding the movement and its impact on the country.

It’s harder to move a mountain than for a man to change

I lived the 1950s and 60s Civil Rights Movement and the New Jim Crow voting restraints and Trump Racism as a push back.
While even in the twenty-first century the United States has a long way to go to achieve racial equality, it would not be where it is now without the Civil Rights Movement.
Even though it galvanized the American public at the time, it also opened the eyes of the world and caused cataclysmic changes in the political, legal, social, and cultural landscape.
There are still many more miles before we can rest.

Good intro...

To inquire about the Civil Rights Movement. There are key events mentioned that should be looked at closer for in-depth understanding. However, I appreciate that this book does take a high level approach to timeline the events of the Civil Rights Movement and ties the Black Lives Matter movement. For me, it showed the relevance of the former is still the opportunity of today.

Great Introduction to an important era

This book is the perfect introduction to the Civil Rights Movement and a refresher for those who want to revisit this history. It is not nor does it claim to be the complete history but provides an overview of the major events of the period and highlights where more reading can be done. It just gives the facts of events that occurred, no opinions which I appreciate.

Well written and informative. There were a couple of conclusions I didn't necessarily agree with. Perhaps if the writer had expounded a bit more it would have been more persuasive. Overall a good review of the Civil Rights Movement.

This book was very easy to read and gave an excellent summarisation of a very important subject. Definitely worth reading!

Brief, but excellent

Excellent overview of the era. Brief, but informative. Very enjoyable read. I will look up books I the bibliography for further reading.
